To analyze the complex structures and literacy experiences of a number of 17th and 18th century narratives and then relation to Defoe's works. Enlarging knowledge of the: novel and Defoe's place in history and, understanding how Defoe used the conventions of earlier narrative traditions in determining the place of his works in the history of the novel.
