To compose a monograph on Descartes' thought by writing a key section on Descartes' unique version of foundationalism, i.e. the view that a belief is worthy of rational acceptance only if it is either self-evident (the foundations) or else bears some particular logical relationship to the self-evident (the super-structure). The monograph as a whole will be an exposition and evaluation of what Descartes took to be the proper relationship between metaphysical and scientific theorizing.
