To study the roman a these, or ideological novel as a genre. The study is concerned with the formal properties that certain texts have in common and with the manner in which ideas are embodied in - and to what extent they determine the shape of - these novels. The study will focus particularly on French texts from 1897-1939. The work will define certain generic constants of these works, and will analyze several individual works in the light of these constants.
