Yiddish Literary Influence on Jewish-American Fiction

To work toward a definition of the Jewish-American writer. PI contends that the Yiddish literary tradition is the most significant force in Jewish-American literature. Study will consider four authors--Isaac Bashevis Singer, Abraham Cohen, Saul Bellow, and Bernard Malamud, each of whom represents a possible relationship to the Yiddish language.
