To carefully analyze the architecture of Sainte Gertrude in Nivelle, Belgium, the collegiate church of a royal abbey for women founded in the seventh century. As the principal surviving 11th century structure in the region, a close study of the church’s fabric and design should lead to an understanding of other works in the area. Nonphysical aspects, such as the political circumstance of the construction of the church will also be studied.
