Josephus and Rabbinic Histiography

To discover the literary history of overlapping material in the writings of Flavius Josephus and of the Rabbis in order to determine which corpus preserves the material in a more original form and flow the other modified the tradition for its own purposes. This knowledge should lead to an understanding of the attitude of Judaism towards the Roman Empire, the impact of Hellenism on the Jews, and the origins and background of Christian historiography.
