To complete a study on the problem of freedom in the Puritan imagination in the lives as well as writings of theologians, preachers, autobiographers, poets, and novelists from the 16th through 18th centuries. Study seeks to show why men and women chose a determinist theology which many found demoralizing and to examine literary expressions of their faith.
