To work on a book-length investigation of the portrayal of the female figure in the Spanish-American novel. Study will attempt to discover why there are so few memorable female characters in Spanish-American fiction and why those novels whose titles promise female protagonists ultimately focus on other topics or characters. The primary focus will be on the female as a linguistic creation, as a produce of the predetermined adjectives and signifiers which mold her.
