To analyze the unpublished letters and manuscripts of American poet Carl Sandburg. Work will include cataloging, organizing and evaluating the letters and papers stored at Connemara, Flat Rock, North Carolina, the Sandburg home during his last 22 years. Specific concerns of the study will be the content and nature of the Sandburg papers. The time periods involved, the individual relationships revealed, and the information the papers provide about Sandburg's life and work during the last 2 decades of his life.
