To allow Indians of various tribes to work under the supervision of Smithsonian personnel on Indian materials in the Smithsonian, in order to be able to return and catalogue and disseminate materials which are still held in the reservation as well as providing Smithsonian personnel with some authentic Indian advice in identifying the millions of photographs and artifacts they have.
