To present a lecture series discussing the cultural, religious, anthropological, and ethnographic history of African art. Themes: the holistic nature of African studies which demands an understanding of the total cultural context of the object; the precepts of linguistics, musicology, iconography, oral history and mythology; ethnographic distinctions of sub-Saharan Africa; evolution and rediscovery of African culture within the context of American life.
