The Social History of a Sea Town: Thomaston, Maine, 1840-1905

FAIN: GY-10273-74

Margaret Scott Creighton
President and Trustees of Bates College (Lewiston, ME 04240-6028)

To document, in writing and through period photographs, society in Thomaston, Maine, as it existed during the town's seafaring and shipbuilding boom, from 1840-1905. No historical studies of the home life in seaport towns in the 1800's are presently available and it is hoped this project will stimulate interest in other home-port societies. The final manuscript will be presented to the Thomaston Community and Historical Society as a contribution to the town's bicentennial.
