To document in sound recordings and photographs the folk hymn singing tradition of the conservative Baptists in S.W. Virginia. To determine the relationships between the different churches involved in this tradition, especially the white and black groups. To bring to the attention of students in various fields of the humanities data on this neglected aspect of American folklife.
