Stabilizing Museum's Collections

FAIN: PB-261322-18

Museo de las Americas, Inc. (San Juan, PR 00902-3634)
Maria Lopez-Vilella (Project Director: January 2018 to July 2024)

The purchase of a power generator, dehumidifiers, and ventilators and the hiring of a conservation consultant to stabilize humidity in both exhibition spaces and storage areas to prevent the spread of mold to the Museo de las Améericas collections, which contains art works and objects related to the history and culture of the Americas from the pre-Columbian period to the present.

The Museum's collection has been affected by fungus, due to the lack of power in our galleries after hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico. This funds will allow us to acquire equipment, cleaning materials and a consultant in the conservation area. At this stage we are focusing in cleaning the collection's artifacts that have suffered the most. Also the equipment (power generator, fans, humidifiers, and others) will help us to prevent this happening again by preparing an area with energy and climate control.
