To hire an archivist to establish a structural framework for an archival collection of papers covering the history of Nantucket Island and the Whaling ships that once sailed from her port. The collection falls into eight groups 1) Whaleship logs and journals 2) account books 3) shipping papers 4) Records of the Nantucket Society of Friends 5) Genealogical Records 6) Photographs, daguerreotypes, glassplates and tapes 7) microfilms of part of the collections 8) diaries, journals, letters, scrapbooks and early printed pamphlets. Grant will also support additional microfilming.
