To catalogue specific archival collections of the YIVO institute for Jewish research, including YIVO's photographic collection, its uncatalogued Yiddish books, and preserve through microfilming the YIVO archival collection and other portions of the Institute's library in order to prevent the irreplaceable loss of these items. Founded in Poland in 1925 and removed to New York in 1940, the Institute is a major center primarily for the study of Jewish social and economic history and culture of Eastern and East Central Europe, the Yiddish language and literature and other language related arts.
