To establish a project to produce a machine readable biographic database of approximately 35,000 records covering African-related materials for transfer to the Library of Congress for distribution via the MARC (machine-readable cataloging) Service. This project will demonstrate that a research library with collection strength and cataloging expertise in a particular subject area, can produce a database of a quality which can be merged with the LC database to form a single, consistent national database.
