To support a 2 1/2 day workshop to: highlight the role of subject access in library and information systems with emphasis on the needs of the information seeker; assess the nature and extent to which there is a "subject access problem," compare the techniques for subject access now being used and seek to improve communications between the various communities with regard to subject-access research efforts and seek opportunities for the improvement of subject- access performance for all classes of publications.
