To produce an annotated edition of the American Diaries of Evert A. Duyckinck (1816-1878), New York editor, author and scholar. He was an intimate of many literati of the period, and a keen observer and participant of the literary and cultural world of his time. His 275,000 word Diaries will be transcribed, collated and annotated; the first segment is scheduled for publication in late 1977. The final definitive inclusive text will be invaluable to literary and cultural historians and critics.
