To prepare a critical edition of the complete theatre of Luis Velez de Guevara, a prominent 17th century Spanish dramatist. Explanatory notes will provide textual clarification and describe known variants of the works. Critical and analytical introductions will bring to light surprising new sources and influences that connect Velez to the general evolution of Spanish comedia and drama elsewhere in Europe. This critical edition will make available for the first time all 100-odd plays, and will be co-published in the U.S. and Spain.
