To evaluate the reliability of Samuel Purchas's Pilgrimes (1625) which, though basically a collection of travel narratives, contains primary source material in every field that has to do with the England of his day. If the study proves promising, a modern annotated edition of Pilgrimes may be suggested. If not, the study itself will be published with annotations, commentary, and indices.
