Translation of and Introduction to Neva' I' Ferhad U Shirin

The project will develop an annotated, introduced translation of a fifteenth-century Iranian narrative poem. Since the tradition of which this poem is a part is largely a Persian one, the proposed translation will open the work to scholars of Persian literature who do not read in the poems original language (Old Uzbek). The introduction will contain biographical, historical and literary-historical information relating to the author and his work, as well as a lengthy section on the poem's use of language and its narrative structure.
