To translate the "Ambrosiaster," a series of anonymous commentaries on the Epistles of Paul, written ca. 376 A.D. This work is important because it provides an eyewitness account of local customs and attitudes of a civilization in rapid transition and because it influenced thinkers of the Middle Ages and was a primary source in the early works of Martin Luther.
