George Cardona (Project Director: November 1977 to October 1990)

To produce an annotated translation of an eighteenth century Sanskrit text on grammar. The author presents a complete survey of major views on grammar, especially concerning the relation of a formal set of rules to semantics, and philosophy of grammar. The work is a concise but quite detailed presentation of different positions with respect to problems which Indian grammarians, logicians and other confronted.
