This Old Irish text is a mixture of prose and archaic verse inserts; the poetry dates from the 8th century. This early version has been edited but never translated in its entirety, though the story is an important theme of early and modern Irish culture. As a parallel to other epics about the deaths of great heroes, the story is also relevant to several disciplines.
