To translate six key works in the history of music; the major goal is to help bridge the gaps between theory and history of music and between these and performance of music of earlier times by adding to scholarly understanding of the music. The treatises to be translated, introduced and annotated include: 1) Aristides Quintilianus, Peri Mousikes (2nd century A.D.); 2) Boethius, De institutione musica (6th century A.D.); 3) Zarlino, Le institutioni harmoniche (1558); 4) Galilei, Dialogo della musica antica et della moderna (1582); 5) H. C. Koch, Versuch einer Anleitung zur Composition (1782-93); 6) J. P. Kirnberqer, Die kunst des reiner Satzes in der Musik (1771-79).
