POPULAR NARRATIVE BALLADS OF MODERN EGYPT

FAIN: RL-*1094-77

Columbia University (New York, NY 10027-7922)
Pierre J. Cachia (Project Director: May 1977 to October 1990)

The project is designed to produce a book containing a critical introduction, a selection of texts in transcription, and the translation of large number of popular narrative ballads of modern Egypt. The ballads have not received serious scholarly attention, yet are of great intrinsic value for studying Egyptian linguistics, literature, and cultural values, especially in comparison to the better-literature of the educated elite.
