To translate and edit the memoirs, together with selected essays and addresses, of O.O. Gruzenberg, one of the most prominent Russian lawyers during the last years of the autocracy. Project will: (a) point up the emergency during a brief interlude in Russia's authoritarian tradition of well-articulated concern for human rights, and (b) contribute to a more thorough understanding of the relationship between the Russian judiciary and the turbulent social and political currents in prerevolutionary Russia.
