Translation of Stories from the Iranian National Legend

FAIN: RL-*1267-77

Mary Ellen P. Farr
Unaffiliated independent scholar

The project will develop a translation of a collection of stories from the national legend of Iran, previously tape-recorded during 1974-75 from professional Iranian storytellers. These stories represent the continuation of a tradition of telling Iranian legendary history which dates from pre-Islamic Iran. The translation would provide a reference work for people interested in the comparison of oral and written traditions, comparative folklore, epic, and the study of the hero. It would also provide a source for these interested in learning about Middle Eastern culture and literature.
