FAIN: RL-*1279-77

University of Wisconsin, Madison (Madison, WI 53715-1218)
V. Narayana Rao (Project Director: May 1977 to October 1990)

The project will make available to scholars and the general public an annotated translation of Basavapurana, a major work of 13th century Indian literature which documents a radical departure from the Sanskrit tradition known as Virasaivism. The book is a sacred religious text and contains a vast hitherto untapped storehouse of cultural and historical information about the people of South India. The product will be an annotated translation with introduction, glossary, and other scholarly apparatuses.
