To prepare three, of four volumes, of The Cambridge History of Judaism, which will deal with archaeological and literary sources in a comprehensive manner. Special attention will be given to interaction of Iranian, Semitic, Hellenistic, Roman and (later) Arab cultures. Jewish and Gentile scholars on an international and ecumenical basis have been enlisted to contribute. It is hoped that a greater understanding and deeper tolerance of Jewish history and Christian origins will result from this work.
