To permit development of research programs for the Center for Materials Research in Archaeology and Ethnology, an organization established by a consortium of nine educational, research, and cultural institutions in the Boston area. The project will: (1) draw up and implement plans for sharing and staffing existing facilities for research in archaeological materials; (2) evaluate and augment existing comparative collections of organic and inorganic materials necessary for laboratory research; and (3) organize professional seminars which would attempt to identify the kinds of coordinated research programs the Center as a whole and groups of its individual laboratories might develop and pursue.
