Elizabeth R. Gebhard (Project Director: February 1978 to October 1990)

To examine the artifacts at the Isthmian sanctuary of Poseidon so as to determine the materials used and method of manufacture; to conduct a surface inspection of the Isthmos to determine sources of raw materials and evidence of regional industrial activity; and to compare the artifacts with similar objects from Corinth, which was the controlling city for Isthmia, in order to explore the organization of a major Greek sanctuary and the extent to which it was dependent on the controlling city for its goods and services.
