To support The Problem of Slavery In the Age of Emancipation, 1820-1890, vol. 3 of a series which analyzes the religious, philosophical, and political controversies over slavery. Vol. 3 will examine the period when Black slavery was finally outlawed throughout the New World. It will relate the Anglo-American struggles over slavery to economic factors, will examine the ties between antislavery and other reforms, and will emphasize the initiative of free Blacks and the perceptions and interactions between Black and White reformers and between Britons and Americans Study will also consider slavery in Cuba and Brazil.
