Since 1939 the investigators have been assembling an archive of the regional folklore of the Intermountain West which will become one of the most significant collections in the nation. Concurrently they have prepared several books and many journals articles dependent upon the archive. Under this proposal, the archive will be significantly enlarged and its content rendered more accessible. Further critical work will be completed, especially on cowboy and western critical work will be completed , especially on cowboy and western songs and on folk technology of the pioneering period.
