To research and publish the first comprehensive reference work on the history and heritage of Bronx County. There has never been a scholarly study of the Bronx, home of one and a half million people, the sixth largest city in the U.S. This work will emphasize establishing an historic continuum. The History of the Bronx will have three sections: 1) Frontier aristocracy 2) Transition, and 3) the Urban Society. Research through the American Revolution has been completed. Grant money will be used for research assistants and professional consultation of scholars.
