To produce a scholarly monograph and a series of historical essays on Phoenix, the largest U.S. city without a. written history. Phoenix Rising will be an urban biography of the period 1870-1970, emphasizing the people, families and institutions responsible for the city's growth. Phoenix Historical Studies will deal with several social history topics, and the first bibliography of metropolitan area history will be completed.
