FAIN: RS-*0646-78

Robert S. Weddle
Unaffiliated independent scholar

To develop a comprehensive narrative correlating episodes of discovery and exploration of the Gulf and coastal region in full historical context. 45 days will be spent in archives in Seville and Madrid to obtain microfilm copies of pertinent documents. Investigation in Europe and in Latin America will produce new knowledge that will correct old misconceptions present in published material. The two=year study will produce a well-illustrated edition of value to specialists in several disciplines, as well as to a less scholarly audience.
