To research and write a history of the YWCA of the City of New York from its beginning in 1870 until today. Questions involve the role of woman from diverse backgrounds in one of the world's largest cities, particularly how one of the earliest and most influential women's organizations interpreted the situation of women in the city during the industrial revolution. Such a study will be a contribution to the intellectual and social and cultural history of the U.S.
