To produce a computer index to 19th century American fine arts periodicals. These periodicals are of the greatest present usefulness to art and cultural historians. There is currently us index to 19th century American art journals - a major source of information not only about American painting and sculpture of the period, but also about contemporary European developments and about fundamental attitudes in the U.S. towards foreign art of the past and present.
