Preparation of a Catalogue of Byzantine Seals in the Dumbarton Oaks Collection

To complete the preparation of a catalogue of 17,000 Byzantine lead seals in collections of Harvard University. The final publication will catalogue the largest collection in the world. Since Byzantine seals yield the name and surname of the official, his office and title, the region where such office is held, and the date, they are the primary source material for a concrete and detailed history of Byzantine imperial and ecclesiastical administration.
