Examination of hypothesis that external appearance or design of technological artifacts shapes attitudes and values that ultimately govern their development and use.

To bring together a minimum of 12-14 humanists and social scientists who will suggest possibilities for combining critical theory (Frankfurt School) and structuralism/semiotics in order to develop a better understanding of the cultural significance of technology.
