Forty Prime Time Family Reading programs in
public schools across Kentucky over two years.
The
Kentucky Humanities Council requests $100,000 in funding for 20 six-week
Prime Time Family Reading Time programs that will take place in public schools
in each of the next two years for a total of 40 programs. This is an expansion
of Prime Time in Kentucky from public libraries into public schools. KHC
commits to raise $100,000 between May 2017 and May 2019 to match the grant funds
used to expand Prime Time to schools. Prime Time is an award-winning,
humanities-based program that creates the precondition for future learning among
economically and educationally vulnerable families-historically underserved or never-served
populations. Prime Time is a 6-week program that offers a proven methodology
and program model that introduces reading and learning as a family activity and
often a new family tradition. The core elements of the Prime Time methodology
are humanities focused content, quality
children's literature, open-ended questioning and techniques, and collective
learning.
