Friends of Peralta Hacienda Historical Park (Oakland, CA 94601-0172)
Holly L. Alonso (Project Director: May 2013 to present)

Building the Historic Core Adobe Area where the Peraltas' 1821 and 1840 adobes once stood and endowment for the Director of History position.

Six-acre Peralta Hacienda Historical Park, a California State Landmark whose landscape, historic house and interpretive exhibits tell the iconic national story of California's rapid changes under Spanish, Mexican and US rule as experienced by four generations of the region's first Spanish-speaking family, is located today in the diverse urban community of Fruitvale, where the stories of the community today, the new faces of America, are linked to the West Coast's early history in a unique crucible of community and audience engagement through the humanities. This grant will enable the site to build the Historic Core section of the park according to the master plan created under NEH funding in 2001 and endow a permanent staff position for a historian as Director of History at the site.
