Title: Lost in the Tigris: The Trials and Tribulations in Editing the Royal Inscriptions of Sargon II of Assyria
Abstract: Presentation of the difficulties in editing the inscriptions of Sargon II. The difficulties are largely due to the fact that many of the original texts were lost in the Tigris River in the mid 1800s and only poor copies of them made in the 19th century by an individual who could not read them are extant. Presentation given on several occasions 2013-4, at the University of Oxford (11/12/2013), University of Cambridge (02/11/2014), and Université catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve ( 05/9/2014).
