Funding will support a series of public programs on the topic of land ownership in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands; cultural tourism projects including development of maritime heritage trails; public programs on the various cultural traditions represented by the diverse populations in the Commonwealth; a series of Chautauqua performances for the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial; and 52 radio programs in the humanities.

This project includes five standalone components including "Article XII: Considering the Legal, Economic and Cultural Dimensions;" "Civic Tourism: Defining Place;" "Embracing Diversity in a Multicultural Commonwealth;" "Celebrating the Lincoln Bicentennial;" and "Humanities Half-Hour Radio Program." These components will use a variety of formats including lectures, facilitated panel discussions, conferences, a workshop, civic reflection discussions, Chautauqua performances, classroom projects, thematic exhibitions, a publication, and radio programming. Three components will explore current social, cultural, economic and political issues arising from the Northern Mariana Islands' unique political relationship with the United States. One component will offer information about one of America's most influential political leaders in conjunction with the bicentennial of his birth. One will offer a variety of humanities programming to a wide spectrum of our community.
