Endowment for teacher professional development programs in the humanities.

Humanities Texas requests a $500,000 Challenge Grant from NEH as the centerpiece of a $5 million campaign to establish an endowment for our programs. Income from the Challenge Grant and its $1.5 million in matching funds will be dedicated to a portion within the larger endowment specifically for our programs for Texas classroom teachers. With the support of an endowment, Humanities Texas will significantly expand our teacher programs by broadening the range of disciplines in which we provide training, extending the program’s reach across the state, and launching a mentoring program for early-career humanities teachers in low-performing schools. By providing our organization with the stability of its first permanent source of program funding, the Challenge Grant and the larger endowment campaign will not only help ensure the future of our teacher programs, but also significantly expand our long-term capacity to advance knowledge and understanding in the humanities throughout Texas.
