We propose to bring the Coming of the American Revolution (1764–76) to life for students of American history nationwide by immersing them in the letters and diaries of contemporary participants; the broadsides, pamphlets, and official documents that set out colonists’ grievances; and the newspaper accounts, maps, portraits, engravings, and artifacts that detail the era. Our web-based timeline/documentary history will display original documents for 14 events and 4 comprehensive themes, and it will offer contextual materials (headnotes, biographies, lesson plans, WWW links, reading lists, essays). Hosted by www.masshist.org, our site will be free, accessible on all platforms, and readily expandable as new materials become available. |
