A three-week institute for twenty-five college and university faculty members to engage in critical debates on contemporary African-American literature.

“Contemporary African American Literature” is intended for college and university teachers and advanced graduate students who desire to stay abreast of the latest developments in African American literary studies. It aims to facilitate an intensive and collaborative engagement with, and a deeper understanding of, current debates in African American literary studies. Participants will also develop critical tools that may be used in examining and teaching the most widely read and commercially successful contemporary African American literature, including urban literature and graphic novels.
