The New York Public Library’s (NYPL) Division of Teaching and Learning proposes the three-week Summer Institute "Recipe for America: New York, Immigration, and American Identity through Food" for educators to be held from July 30 to August 17, 2012. The Institute will serve a national group of 25 classroom teachers and school librarians, extending and deepening their knowledge of immigration and cultural diffusion in the United States through the examination of the cultural confluence of food, history, and culture. NYPL’s "Recipe for America" Institute will use the lens of food to examine expressions of identity and “becoming American,” and seek to build participants’ skills as researchers by making use of the Library’s unparalleled collections of primary source material, expert library professionals, and a diverse faculty of accomplished humanities scholars and educators. |
